Check out this interesting article from the magazine Boating about the creation of the first pontoon boat in Minnesota on Lake Harriet.

 

Originally it was thought that the first one was created in 1952, but from the looks of the article in the Minneapolis Star the concept actually first appeared in 1939. It's no surprise to me that Minnesotans would come up with a pontoon boat first given our multitudes of lakes! After all, there is no better way to enjoy a Minnesota summer than from the deck of a boat.
